The
storm comes through with strong winds and knocks everything around and pours
chaos into the world.
As
a writer, I walk into that storm every day.
My
mind is always full of racing thoughts.
A
storm.
An
outpouring of precipitation washing over my brain and giving me idea after
idea. Story after story. It can get crazy and overwhelming.
In
that storm, however, is a raindrop.
One
single drop of water falling from the sky.
Each
single idea is like a raindrop in the rainstorm.
When
I focus on that one drop or that one thought, I feel sometimes like my soul is
reflected back to me and characters begin to introduce themselves. I am lost in
a daydream and everything else is tuned out. That one idea overtakes my mind
and I succumb to it.
Not
all of these ideas stick, however. Some never make it to paper. They come and
they go. When that happens, I greet and thank them, then let them pass.
But
the moment I get a gem or one of those raindrops that has potential to change
everything, it is an amazing experience. I begin to write that story or novel. Following
those characters, I journey wherever they take me.
When
I decided to name this blog “Daydreaming on a Raindrop,” I wanted to capture
how I felt when a new poem, short story or novel flooded my mind and begged to
be brought to life.
A
raindrop.
An
idea.
One
single drop of water.
One
single inspiration.
Into
the storm I walk and my life is better for it.
